‘The Spark’ fundraiser to supplement equipment, training of firefighters

The Cripple Creek Firefighter Foundation will host “The Spark”, a kickoff event and Fire Department Awards Celebration on Saturday, Apr. 4, from 6-9 p.m. at the Cripple Creek Elks Lodge #316 located at 375 E. Bennett Ave. Tickets are $20 and proceeds will help fund firefighter training, equipment, and safety education programs.

The Cripple Creek Firefighter Foundation is a new nonprofit organization dedicated to better equip and train Cripple Creek firefighters to respond to emergencies effectively. Their mission is to “empower the Cripple Creek Fire Department and enhance safety awareness through education and resources.”

According to Treasurer Steven Zoellner, establishment of the nonprofit will allow the Cripple Creek Fire Department pursue grant opportunities in order to supplement equipment and training of the city’s firefighters, in addition to public safety education programs.

The purpose of the fundraiser is to “introduce to the public who we are, and where we are going,” Zoellner said.

The evening will honor outstanding members of the Cripple Creek Fire Department for their courage, leadership, and dedication to protecting the community. The event will also bring residents, visitors, and firefighters together to support public safety initiatives in Cripple Creek.

The program features keynote remarks from local leaders, presentations on upcoming training initiatives and grant opportunities, and opportunities for attendees to donate, sponsor, and partner with the foundation.

“The board is a pretty powerful group of people with Cripple Creek Fire Chief Joe O’Coner in the lead as Board President, Kaitlyn Ragsdale as Vice President, along with board members Kim Yamamuchi, Donna Brazill, Dan Williams, and Marie Rieger providing support from the city,” Steven Zoellner said. “Kare (Zoellner) and I will assist as Secretary/Treasurer.”

Light hor ‘devours will be served, along with music and dancing provided by local favorite D.J. Jim Stroman of Cosmic Entertainment.
