K-Kids all jazzed up about the library
When a library opens in the neighborhood, some youngsters go ho-hum. But not K-Kids at Summit Elementary School in Divide. After a visit from Tim Miller and Megan Ross, executive director, and community relations coordinator, respectively, of Rampart Library District, the K-Kids got all excited about books, lots of them.
And in a time when libraries offer more than books, the kids learned about the maker space at the Divide branch and voted to help fund the materials. Last week, the second-grade students of Jennie Barnes donated $250 to the library “take and make” offerings. Miller and Ross accepted the check from the students in a ceremony at the school with K-Kids coordinator Carol Wallace.
The kids earned $200 from a bake sale during Family Fun Night in November when some customers exceeded the price of the baked goodies. For the remainder, the students dug into a reserve fund.
Barnes noted that the K-Kids have been making announcements to the student body about going to the Divide library and taking part in the activities offered over spring break.
“Of all the library donations I have received during my career, this was the most meaningful,” Miller said. “The Summit K-Kids are an amazing group of young leaders who reminded the Rampart Library District of this community’s huge heart.”
