Pikes Peak area zoo voted as 2nd-best zoo in U.S. in USA Today awards
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo ended up ranking second place in votes for ‘best zoo in the country’ in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
This is the second year in a row that the zoo has received its highest ranking ever, second place. As well as this ranking, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo also earned second place for ‘Best Zoo Membership’ and second place for ‘Best Zoo Exhibit’ for Rocky Mountain Wild, which is home to animals native to the Rocky Mountain region.
USA Today’s 10Best is a readers’ choice awards program that highlights the best in destinations, food and drink, hotels, and things to do. An expert panel selects their top picks for each category and readers vote to determine the ten winners.

This year marks Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s 100th anniversary. In its centennial year, the zoo will be making historic upgrades to its giraffe herd’s home. The upgrades will include a 12,000 square-foot International Center for the Care and Conservation of Giraffe and 25 percent expansion to their outdoor space.
Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska took first place as the best zoo in the U.S.
