Falling tree causes potential hazard
At 3:44 in the afternoon of March 12, Lake George Fire Protection District was dispatched for a tree that had blown over and had fallen onto a powerline and a house at 29467 County Road 77.
LGFPD arrived at 4:08 p.m. and found that an approximately 60’ tall tree had blown over and was balanced on the roof of the house. Branches were touching the power lines without any arcing or sparking. The tree had split about two feet above the ground and was teetering on the eaves of the house everytime the wind blew.
CORE Electric was notified and dispatched to the scene. LGFPD personnel remained on scene until CORE arrived at 4:49 p.m. Due to fire potential from the powerlines, the electricity from the house was disconnected by CORE. Under advisement from LGFPD, the homeowner will contact his insurance company for tree removal by a professional company. LGFPD cleared the scene at 5:31 p.m.
