Times have changed | Guest Column

I am writing in response to the Feb.18th letter – “Citizens Good – Immigrants Bad.”
It was stated that Immigrants have a positive impact on federal, state and local governments. I believe this was true in the past, my family came to America legally in the early 1900s along with many others and wanted to be American, worked hard and contributed to our economy and did not receive any handouts from our government. They were very grateful to America and embraced its values and traditions.
Times, however, have changed. Now we have a plethora of illegal migrants who come to America with their hands out, they receive free housing, food and medical care. They do not assimilate or value America’s traditions, they come here at the urging of the Democrats who want to have more voters who will vote their way and keep the Democrats and globalists in power. They are not vetted and criminals and all kinds of miscreants arrive and cause disruption as they do not honor our laws or have any respect for American values.
I realize there are innocents that got caught up in this movement but that does not mean that we have to accept the criminals and others who are out to destroy our country. Accepting millions of people from third world countries is unsustainable! Just as an example, 8% of the Nicaraguan population have entered the US illegally during the Biden administration, draining billions from our economy. Immigration is good when it is done legally and when people are vetted, it is insane to let in people who come here just to steal, kill and destroy. We are a nation of laws and people need to obey the law, a nation can only survive with a common culture, language and secure borders!
