Aaron Helstrom has announced his candidacy for Teller County commissioner in District 2. If elected, he would replace Commissioner Bob Campbell, who is term-limited after eight years.

In a press release, Helstrom, a retired U.S. Marine Corps Master Sgt., promises to be transparent and accountable and to uphold constitutional conservatism such as protecting individual liberties, like First and Second Amendment rights.

If elected, Helstrom states that he be will be involved in preventing wildfires through proactive measures, cutting taxes for seniors, supporting veterans with community partnerships and promoting local hubs like churches and schools.

After retiring from the Marine Corps. Helstrom served as a civilian government employee.

“I led high-stakes projects like the GSA Fleet Accountability initiative, bringing 45,000 vehicles into compliance ahead of schedule and saving nearly $750,000,” he said in the release.

Helstrom adds that he served on the Woodland Park School District Accountability Committee, hosted a free monthly veterans’ breakfast, volunteered for veterans’ events, and co-chaired GOP Precinct 12 from 2022 to January 2026 ad is a volunteer pastor for Crossroads Ministry. Helstrom is running for the position against Carl Andersen and Dave Paul, who is in the process of collecting signatures to be on the ballot in the November election.
