Lake George community members packed Lake George Fire Protection Station on Dec. 8 to bid farewell to Edwin Loren Adams, who passed away Nov. 21 in Colorado Springs.

Adams and his wife of 67 years, Evelyn, have embraced Lake George as their home for the past 33 years. They purchased a 200-acre homestead ranch and raised hay and 10 donkeys. They also raised two children, Terri and Steven, before moving to Lake George.

Prior to moving to Lake George, Adams graduated from East High School in Denver and attended the University of Colorado, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. It was there he and Evelyn met and married, then moved to Colorado Springs, where he worked for Clifton Precision.

Adams then went to Kaman Sciences, where he did research and development for nuclear projects. In 1980, he opened his own manufacturing business, ADCOM Transformers. The company built custom transformers used in underground wells, medical equipment and traffic transformers for California Traffic Systems.

Adams also played string bass with the Colorado Springs Symphony and Opera.

He restored many antique cars and tractors. He built 12 model engines from raw castings using his large lathe and milling machine. His shop was his most favorite place to be. He and Evelyn participated in many engine and model shows, antique tractor pulls, auto tours and swap meets.

Adams was a charter member of Vintage Motor Car Club of America, Pikes Peak Chapter; The Porsche Club, Rocky Mountain Region; Union Pacific Steam Club; Arkansas Valley Flywheelers; Home Church of The Rockies; and a 17-year volunteer with the Lake George Fire Protection District.

The celebration of life service was presided over by Jay Lorenzen, board member of Lake George Fire Protection District. The service began with a parade of fire trucks from Lake George and neighboring districts, Ute Pass Regional Health Service District, Park County Sheriff, and the U.S. Forest Service.

Wendy West, Adam’s goddaughter, and granddaughter Jessica Hughes read scripture and the obituary. His children and wife shared memories, as did a few others, including Lake George Fire Protection District Chief Susan Bernstetter, a longtime friend of the Adamses.

Lorenzen gave a brief message followed by the singing of the Lord’s Prayer by Deanna Daniel. Park County dispatch aired a last call and the celebration was closed in prayer and a bagpiper playing taps.

A reception was held immediately following to socialize and share stories of Adams and his contributions to the community. Adams will be buried in the Lake George Cemetery at a later date.
