A Teller County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested last week, making it the second time in a little over a month that he’s been in custody at the El Paso County jail.

John Taylor, 39, faces an indecent exposure charge, a misdemeanor, after being arrested in Colorado Springs the night of Dec. 1, according to his arrest affidavit. On Nov. 2, he was also arrested in Security-Widefield on suspicion of assault. Teller County officials say the case has since been dropped.

El Paso County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Kate Singh said “no such records” exist in regard to Taylor’s first case and declined to answer any further questions about the case. She would not confirm nor deny if that meant the case had been sealed.

Concerning the Nov. 2 arrest, the Teller County Sheriff’s Office said that “after reviewing the circumstances and facts behind the arrest, the District Attorney dismissed all charges.”

In Taylor’s latest case, a woman allegedly saw him inappropriately touching himself while parked outside a Colorado Springs gym, according to his arrest papers.

Police tied Taylor to the scene through security footage that shows him exiting and then entering his car and staying in it for an hour and 16 minutes. Security video also showed his license plate number and a unique gym card code that each member uses to scan in.

Taylor appeared in court Tuesday for a pre-trial conference, but it was rescheduled to Jan. 13.

Taylor was accused of assault by his roommate, who called 911 after a verbal fight escalated at their home in Security-Widefield. At the time, deputies said they saw the roommate had visible injuries to their head.

A few days later, Taylor paid his $10,000 bond and was released from jail.

The Teller County Sheriff’s Office said Taylor has been a deputy since 2018. He’s currently on administrative leave while the facts of his misdemeanor case are being reviewed.
