Girls Basketball

The Panthers are settling in as a team for the season. The team’s first game coming will be Dec. 11.

Coach Ashley Owens commented on the teams strengths, noting the team’s speed and height will help on the defensive side. Even with these strengths, the coaches are focused on building up a culture of teamwork, respect and community.

“The biggest thing is the building of the team as a whole, we have to play like a team for all of this to fit together and we are already seeing this happening in practices,” Owens said.

The incoming group of freshmen won the championship last year and they are excited to join the high school team. The freshmen are working hard to improve their skills working with the upperclassmen and adapting into the team.

“That group of girls are such great team players that they are coming into the new team environment very well,” Owens said. “They are excited to play with the other girls and to continue to push to become even better basketball players.”

The team has a core of strong returning players.

Boys Basketball

Woodland Park started its season with a non-conference loss at Harrison (57-27). Despite a smaller team and the rough start, Woodland Park is looking forward to improving and building upon its skills. The team went from 17 players last year to 11 this season. With a large part of the team being freshmen the Panthers have a lot of work to do before league games start. Last year, Woodland Park went 5-8 in league games.
