A place that reflects love and generosity of the owners, the home of newlyweds Gary and Yong Uhlig in Woodland Park is elegant and comfortable, filled with treasures collected over the years. The grandfather clock in the living room once belonged to Yong’s late grandfather.

One of five on the 27^th annual Tweeds Sounds of the Season Holiday Home Tour the first weekend in December, the home in the mountains above the city harbors a feeling of away-from-it-all.

The Uhligs hired MBI Contractors and Highmark Homes & Design to build and design the home which was completed in July 2022. The design provides an experience for the home tourist to peek into the homeowners’ zest for life.  

The awe-inspiring tour begins with opening the front door – custom wood doors that is, followed by an expansive view of Pikes Peak and a home where every piece has meaning.

The hardwood plank floors, the tongue-and-groove ceiling, the beams crafted on site and finished with a mixture of paint and stain, reflect the artistry of the Highmark Design Team.

The great room, with the decorated Christmas tree, shows attention to detail of the partnership between the contractors and designers. The mantle above the stone fireplace was also custom-made.

The kitchen features wood cabinets with a white-drift finish, white quartz countertops and a drawer that vacuum seals fresh food. The team designed the kitchen for Gary, who is known for his culinary skills. The Uhligs’ lifestyle includes entertaining and overnight guests.  

The Uhligs’ attention to detail enhances the experience of the tour. The retro fitted French vanity, for instance, from the era of Louis XIV, with a sink crafted of rock, is worth a gasp or two.

The “mud” room not only has the upscale washer-dryer but features a closet steam room to freshen the day’s clothing.

The floors in this home are custom designed by the design team.  The tile in the master bathroom is of Italian-etched porcelain while the double sinks are set in textured quartz counters.

A desk in the study is crafted from one solid piece of wood, with varnished bark around the edges, also a custom design. In addition, the lighting in each room reflects the theme of the décor.

On two levels, the home has four bedrooms, with a little schoolhouse and fitness room adding interest to the lower level.

A tradition in Woodland Park, the home tour is a nonprofit organization that selects other nonprofits as beneficiaries. This year’s organizations are Faithful Hearts, Teller Senior Coalition, Teller Trail Team and Woodland Park Senior Organization. The tour is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 6 and 7. The event includes hospitality, music, an auction and an array of quilts. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students, K-12 and available at www.wphht.org.
