A Cup of Christmas Tea 

The kickoff event for Gold Camp Country Christmas will be held Nov. 15.

The Cup of Christmas Tea will take place in the upstairs area at the Aspen Mine Center in Cripple Creek. Table hosts make goodies for their table to go with the variety of teas offered by AMC during the event. 

The event, which is is a fundraiser for the AMC Community of Caring Christmas events, has been taking place for about 10 years according to organizer Linda Lyons.

“I started out as a helper back in 2014. Everybody pitches in and the people who attend the event always have a really good time,” she said.  

The host of the table invites friends and coworkers, decorates the table and brings the munchies for the table.

Live entertainment will be provided by Celtic Mountain.

The event is at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $15 each or $20 at the door. To host a table or to buy a ticket, call 719-912-5021 in advance.  

Arrests made

Four people were arrested for allegedly attempting to steal copper wire and other items from CORE Electric’s yard in Woodland Park on CO 67.

Arrested were Jamey Hatch, Chanda Conklin, Mason Eisenhand and Darian Crider, all from the Denver Metro area.

At around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 2, a member of the Northeast Teller County Fire Department spotted people inside the compound and called the police.

“That’s (making) a difference,” Woodland Park Police Chief Chris Deisler said. “See something that’s not right, let us know.”

Several officers immediately responded and contacted the suspects. All were taken into custody and taken to the Teller County Jail charged with felony and misdemeanor property crimes, as well as drug offenses.

The theft of copper wiring has become common as it is easy to sell for scrap, making it a preferred crime among addicts.

Library discussion

Pikes Peak Library District hosts a community celebration to honor the official purchase of the Ute Pass Library from 12 to 1 p.m. Nov. 20 at the library at 8010 Severy Road in Cascade.

Patrons and the public are invited to learn more about plans for the library, with representatives from the community, elected leaders, the PPLD Board, and the Pikes Peak Library District Foundation sharing their thoughts about the district’s permanent and ongoing commitment to the region.

Hiker rescued

A hiker was rescued after developing acute mountain sickness on the Devil’s Playground Trail last week.

According to Teller County Search and Rescue, rescue teams responded to the hiker in distress above tree line on the Devil’s Playground Trail. The hiker was showing signs of acute mountain sickness.

Rescues helped warm the subject and assessed them, then loaded the subject into a litter, performing an uphaul to a UTV. The UTV took the subject and personnel to the Devil’s Playground parking area. Ute Pass EMS and UCHealth Lifeline 1 continued to care for the patient there.

“We’re grateful for the seamless coordination between all responding agencies and for the positive outcome of this mission,” Teller County Search and Rescue said in a Facebook post.

Citizens Academy

Applications are now being accepted for Woodland Park’s 2026 Citizens Academy. The academy is a free series of in-person classes designed to provide an inside look at the City of Woodland Park government.

“This program is for anyone who wants more insight into their local government in a hands-on environment,” the city’s website says. “In each class, city staff and elected officials will provide an in-depth look at how our local government functions. Students will tour facilities, participate in mock activities, learn how different departments operate, and get face-to-face time with department directors.”

Beautification award

The Keep Woodland Park Beautiful Committee announced the opening of the 2025 Beautification Award. The annual award celebrates individuals, businesses and organizations who contribute to making Woodland Park a beautiful place to live.

The Committee has nominated four area businesses, organizations, or individuals for this year’s award, and will also accept your independent nominations. Voting is open through 5 p.m. on Dec. 5
