Voters in the Cripple Creek-Victor School District gave a resounding yes to ballot measure 4A which continues the tax previously approved by district voters.  With the approval the district has promised to pay off the existing bond.  

The measure passed when 61.91% of voters, 1.068, approved the measure while 657 voters said no.

“We are elated,” said Mary Bielz, president of the school board. “The fund will continue to help us keep the students self-sufficient.”  

With the loss of state and federal funding, 90% of the school funding is local.

“We worked hard, and the community has been fantastic in their support for our students,” Bielz said. 

Cripple Creek voters like the idea of being a home rule city. Asked if the city should form a home rule charter commission for the purpose of drafting a home rule charter, 60.77% said yes while the remainer, 102 voters, disapproved of the idea. With a choice of selecting eight candidates to form the commission, 990 voters chose all eight: Bruce Brown, Kirk Pennock, Elwood Henson, Kelly W. Turner, Zeb Pennock, Jonathon Smith, Shawn M. Naprawa and Steven DiCamilo 

In the only competitive race, JR Gatlin won the vote to represent Ward 5 on the Cripple Creek City Council. Gatlin won 54.81% of the vote against Katherine Lewis. Bruce Brown was unopposed to represent Ward 4. 

In Victor, Barbara Manning was unopposed for her bid to keep serving the town as the mayor while Nancy Hanks was unopposed to represent Ward 1.  

Victor voters just said no to the issue of having the offices of city clerk and city treasurer be appointed by the city council rather than by registered electors of the city of Victor. Of 125 voters, 67 said no.  

For the Cripple Creek-Victor School Board of Education, Kasie Hilfers, Amanda Marie Young and Donna Brazill each won a place to be at-large board members, with 2,634 voters weighing in.  

Voters in the Florissant Fire Protection District voted no on the issue of raising taxes by $387.77  a year, beginning next year. Of 1,567 voters 897 said no.
