Police call for cancelation of some events in Manitou Springs amid criminal investigation
According to the Manitou Springs Police Department, Chief Bill Otto has recommended the cancelation of certain public events due to an undisclosed criminal investigation underway.
A press release on the matter stated that specific details couldn’t be shared at this time due to the sensitive nature of the investigation. Authorities did, however, assure locals that there is no known threat to public safety multiple times in that release.
“These cancellations were not mandated by law enforcement but were initially suggested out of caution at the initiation of the investigation,” reads the press release. “Based on information currently available, we can now confirm that there is no known risk to the public. We emphasize that this recommendation is not based on any direct or immediate safety threat to the citizens of Manitou Springs.”
It’s a bit unclear what events may be impacted, though one event that’s made a cancelation announcement thus far is a League of Women Voters forum that was set to take place at the Cliff House. That event has been canceled and the organization is working on rescheduling.
Online commentary related to the press release from police has caused quite a stir, with members of the public wondering why event cancelations would be requested amid a lack of public safety concern. Unfortunately, many investigations must be kept vague while the investigation is underway. Look for additional details to be released in upcoming days and weeks.
