Chamonix spa is worth the splurge

IMG_3553.jpeg

It’s worth the splurge.

In the heart of the World’s Greatest Gold Camp with its rough-and-tumble history, the Chamonix Hotel features a very non-rough-and-tumble world-class spa. And it’s not just for visitors.

“We want locals to feel like our spa is their luxury escape close to home, and we’re eager to connect with the community,” marketing representative Brittany Franklin said. “We invite locals to see the Chamonix as a place close to home they can come to dine, relax and be entertained.”

The Chamonix’s décor manages to combine a glamorous, contemporary hotel with vintage elements like fire features and Victorian damask wallpaper that nod to the goldrush town’s history. Veering away the flash and clatter of the casino, spa guests are directed to the second floor where tranquility awaits.

The spa’s serene lobby is cozy and elegant with plush furnishings. Guests are treated to a cool rosewater towel and fruit infused water as they complete the pre-treatment questionnaire. Next, a spa attendant escorts guests to the changing room where lockers are stocked with a robe and slippers for use at the spa. The glamourous décor and appointments carry throughout the locker room and relaxation space.

Once changed, a lounge replete with upholstered chaises, tranquil music, light snacks and ginger tea is an ideal kick-off to a relaxing day. The facilities are impressively clean and comfortable, and appointments are staggered so the lounge is seldom fully occupied—this ensures an undisturbed time to unwind before treatment.

Treatment options at the Chamonix spa run the gamut. There is a full-service salon for hair and nails. Everything from a basic manicure to artistic acrylics or a simple trim to a full style with color can be done. If your preference is pampering over glam, those options are just as numerous with some signature choices like a 24-karat gold facial, a 90-minute hot stone couples massage or a pearl infused re-mineralizing body mask.

The salon is bathed in natural light and decorated as lavishly as the rest of the hotel. Treatment rooms are appointed with reclining tables that are heated to keep guests comfy cozy—something particularly appealing during winter months. Ambient lighting and tasteful, tranquil music complete the perfect ambience, and Chamonix uses luxury brand products found at Seven Stars spas that draw all the senses into a cocoon of calm.

Guests of the spa are treated like guests of the hotel, and spa-goers are encouraged to build in extra time to enjoy the hotel’s heated rooftop pool and sauna. Confined to the building’s footprint, seating around the small pool gets tight during summer months, but a strong cocktail from the rooftop bar will take the edge off the more crowded environ at the pool.

As the spa day winds down, the locker room’s eucalyptus rain shower with body jets is a must before departure.

“We offer ten percent discounts to Teller County residents as well as special promos for Monday through Thursday appointments,” spa attendant Natalie McNealey said.

To ensure availability, visitors are advised to schedule beauty and spa treatments a week to two weeks in advance.

Luxe diversions come with a matching price tag. Simple treatments like a basic manicure start at $55 with 90-minute premium treatments going well north of $200—a splurge, yes. But the Chamonix Spa is a short, scenic drive from all points in Teller County, and a destination that feels miles above everything else. More information and online booking at chamonixco.com.
