According to jazz musician Ricky Sweum, “Mother Nature is the ultimate composer of the natural world of sound.” We are super excited to combine the natural beauty of Mueller with music at our upcoming concert on July 27 from 6-7 p.m.
Grab a blanket or chair and head to the meadow just up the trail from Grouse Mountain trailhead. You’ll be greeted by a view of mountains and hills as you prepare for a magical evening. Musicians Ricky Sweum and Aidan Gould will light up the grassy stage with their jazz improvisations.
Have you heard of these talented artists based right here in Colorado?
Ricky Sweum is a P. Mauriat Saxophone Performing Artist who has traveled the world with his performances. He has played at events and venues like Carnegie Hall, Macy’s Day Parade, and Monterey Jazz Fest. As well as in 9 other countries including China, Japan and Australia.
Not only does he reach people through performing, but also by teaching. He currently teaches music at Colorado College, the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. Inspiring the future generation of musicians.
The concert is called ‘Nature of Jazz’. When asked what inspired this performance Ricky said, “Jazz is an improvised music and feeds off the inspiration of the moment. Performing in a natural space within a beautiful environment provides for a special inspiration for our improvisations.”
Aidan Gould is a jazz bassist and recent graduate from the University of North Texas’ prestigious jazz program. Through his education and career he has partnered with renowned artists Brad Leali, Claus Riable and of course Ricky Sweum. He aims to innovate the traditional jazz style with fresh energy and music blends.
“Nature and the outdoors has always played an important role in my life,” Aidan says. “It has also played an important role in my musicianship and in the compositions that I write. I’m excited to have the opportunity to truly connect to these things by performing in a space such as Mueller State Park.”
Aidan hopes that this concert will be meaningful to members of the community as it will be for him.
We are extremely lucky and grateful to have Ricky and Aidan donate their time, passion and talent to the park and surrounding community. So don’t wait. Mark it on the calendar to reserve the time for this unique experience where nature meets music at Mueller.
