Colorado Springs police on Monday released the body-worn-camera and drone footage of an officer-involved July shooting in east Colorado Springs. The suspect was uninjured and was identified as Don Woodson for the first time in the news release.
On July 23, officers responded to an incident in the 3800 block of Radiant Drive, near the Palmer Park Dog Park, at about 10:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they were given “established probable cause for domestic violence-related charges” and were given a description of 27-year-old Woodson and his vehicle, according to the an online blotter post from the department.
Woodson fled the scene once in a vehicle, then again on foot, prompting a search of the area using ariel drones.

When officers spotted him in the 3400 block of Floris Point, Woodson was seen on drone footage kneeling down, and the drone operator advised the officer pursuing Woodson to be careful because he seemed to have dropped something.
An officer fired one shot while Woodson appeared to be on the ground. Woodson was uninjured and taken into custody on domestic violence and robbery related charges, according to the department’s release.

Colorado Springs police arrest man for arson for third time this year
In the event of an officer-involved shooting, the department’s policy is to release any footage of the event within 21 days of the incident. Monday’s release came 19 days after Woodson’s arrest.
Going forward, the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will review the investigation conducted by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and publicly rule whether the use of force was justified by the department.
