Colorado Springs police officer injured after alleged assault Monday

A Colorado Springs police officer was injured Monday when he was allegedly kicked by a man receiving care at a local hospital, according to law enforcement officials.

Alexander Mills, 36, faces assault and obstruction charges, among others.

The incident took place at about 9:30 a.m., at CommonSpirit Penrose Hospital on Nevada Avenue, where Mills was being treated, police said.

The officer sustained minor injuries and is expected to return to duty.

Mills, who is being held on a $10,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, according to court records. He is currently being detained on a mental health hold.
